Description

This classic Old-Fashioned Warm Apple Crisp features tender, spiced Golden Delicious apples tucked beneath a golden, buttery, and incredibly crunchy oat topping. It is the ultimate comfort dessert, balancing vibrant tartness with a deep, caramelized molasses sweetness. Perfect for any gathering, this reliable recipe ensures a professional texture contrast that is both rustic and satisfying. Served warm, this dish is the quintessential home-baked treat that brings warmth and comfort to your table.

Ingredients

Scale

6 Golden Delicious apples, peeled and chopped
2 Tbsp granulated sugar
1.75 tsp ground cinnamon, divided
1.5 tsp lemon juice
1 cup light brown sugar
0.75 cup old fashioned oats
0.75 cup all-purpose flour
1 pinch kosher salt
0.5 cup unsalted butter, cold and diced

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350 F degrees and lightly grease an 8×8 inch baking dish.
In a large bowl, toss the chopped apples with the granulated sugar, 3/4 tsp of cinnamon, and lemon juice until well coated.
Transfer the apple mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread into an even layer.
In a separate bowl, combine the brown sugar, oats, flour, remaining 1 tsp cinnamon, and salt.
Cut the cold, diced butter into the dry mixture using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the topping reaches a crumbly, sandy texture.
Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples.
Bake for 50 minutes until the fruit is bubbling and the topping is golden brown.

Notes

Ensure your butter is cold to achieve the best pebble-like texture for the topping. Serve warm, ideally with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream or a dollop of fresh whipped cream. Leftovers can be stored covered in the refrigerator and reheated in the oven or microwave.
