Description

Crispy golden fries smothered in a creamy, sharp cheddar cheese sauce and topped with seasoned halal ground beef and turkey sausage, plus zesty jalapeños and caramelized onions. A customizable comfort dish perfect for game nights.

Ingredients

Scale

2 lb. bag frozen shoestring fries
2 tablespoons olive oil (replace with avocado oil if roasting)
1 large diced yellow or white onion
2 cloves minced garlic
1 lb. 80/20 ground beef
1 package taco seasoning (or homemade mix: 1 tsp cumin, 1 tsp chili powder, ½ tsp paprika, ¼ tsp cayenne)
⅔ cup water
1 lb. hot Italian turkey sausage (halal alternative)
¼ cup unsalted butter (use vegetable butter for dairy-free)
¼ cup all-purpose flour (gluten-free option available)
2 cups whole milk (use vegan/whole milk yogurt as alternative)
4 cups shredded cheddar cheese
½ teaspoon salt (adjusted in cheese sauce)
¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, use white pepper for heat balance)
1 small diced red onion
1 jar jalapeños (whole or finely diced)

Instructions

Preheat deep fryer or cast iron skillet to 350°F (175°C)
Fry fries until golden and crispy, 2-3 minutes. Drain on paper towels
In a pot, sauté ground beef until browned. Add taco seasoning, water, and ⅔ of the diced garlic. Cook 5-7 minutes
Remove beef and cook turkey sausage in the same pot until browned. Drain excess fat
In a new pot, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour until smooth. Slowly add milk and salt
Simmer cheese sauce until thickened, 3-5 minutes. Stir in cheddar cheese until melted
Return beef and sausage to the pot. Mix with remaining garlic and onions
Top hot fries with meat mixture, cheese sauce, jalapeños, and caramelized red onions

Notes

Ensure meat products are halal-certified
For dairy-free version, use vegetable butter and vegan yogurt
Caramelized onion adds natural sweetness
Can omit cayenne pepper or substitute white pepper for heat control
