Flavorful Firecracker Hot Dogs Recipe Easy 4th of July Party Snack

  • Author: ALICE
  • Total Time: 40
  • Yield: 6–8 hot dogs
  • Diet: Vegetarian (if using plant-based hot dogs)

Description

Juicy, spicy hot dogs wrapped in buttery biscuit dough and glazed with sweet, fiery honey-mustard-sriracha. Perfect for summer cookouts, these handheld snacks balance sweet, spicy, and savory with crunchy star-shaped dough exteriors.

Ingredients

Cooking spray (as needed)
All-purpose flour (2 cups / 260 g)
Kosher salt (1/2 tsp / Diamond Crystal equivalent)
Baking powder (2 tsp)
Unsalted butter, chilled (8 tbsp / 113 g, cut into 1/2-inch cubes)
Whole milk (1/2 cup / 120 ml, 2% or oat milk)
Hot honey (2 tbsp + 2 tbsp for glaze)
Yellow mustard (2 tbsp, or Dijon for milder flavor)
Soy sauce (1 1/2 tsp, or coconut aminos for GF)
Sriracha sauce (1/2–1 tsp)
Cornstarch (1/2 tsp)
Hot dogs (6–8, beef, chicken, or plant-based)
Avocado oil spray (optional, for high-heat cooking)

Instructions

Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt. Add chilled butter cubes and toss to coat. Use a pastry cutter or hands to work butter into flour until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Gradually add milk, stirring until a soft, shaggy dough forms. Wrap in plastic, chill 10 minutes.
Roll dough into a 1/4-inch-thick sheet. Cut into 2-inch rounds and re-roll scraps. Stack rounds between parchment paper. With a star-shaped cutter (or stencil), cut a 1-inch star from the center of each round. Set aside.
For the glaze: Whisk hot honey, mustard, soy sauce, sriracha, and cornstarch in a small bowl.
Place hot dogs in an oven-safe pan and preheat grill or oven to medium-high heat to warm. Brush dough rounds with glaze, leaving a 1/4-inch border. Wrap each hot dog in a dough round, crimping edges to seal. Place on prepared baking sheet.
Grill or bake 12–14 minutes until golden and bubbly, rotating halfway through. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Use plant-based hot dogs for a vegetarian version
Chill dough to prevent butter from melting during rolling
Brush extra glaze on hot dogs before baking for more heat
Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days
