Ingredients
2 lbs Granny Smith Apples
1/4 cup Thick caramel sauce
1/2 cup All-purpose flour
1/4 cup Packed brown sugar
1/2 cup Old-fashioned rolled oats
6 tbsp Cold unsalted butter
1/2 tsp Salt, divided
1/2 tsp Freshly ground cinnamon
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Combine flour, brown sugar, 1/4 teaspoon of salt, and cinnamon in a large mixing bowl.
Add the cubed cold butter to the flour mixture and rub with your fingertips until it reaches a coarse, sandy consistency.
Stir in the old-fashioned rolled oats until evenly combined.
Place the topping mixture in the refrigerator while preparing the apples to ensure the butter stays cold.
Peel, core, and slice the apples into uniform chunks.
Toss the apple chunks in a bowl with the caramel sauce and the remaining 1/4 teaspoon of salt.
Divide the apple mixture evenly into four 6-ounce ramekins.
Top each ramekin with the prepared oat mixture.
Bake for 50 minutes until the filling is bubbling and the topping is golden brown.
Notes
You can substitute Granny Smith apples with Honeycrisp for a less tart result. Using smaller ramekins is recommended to maintain the superior crunch-to-filling ratio. Ensure the butter is kept very cold before mixing to achieve the best crumb consistency.
