Description
An indulgent, layered dessert that blends the warmth of spiced orchard apples with the iconic, gooey texture of baked cinnamon rolls. By flattening and layering the dough, this recipe creates a gourmet, cake-like structure with caramelized edges and tender centers, perfect for a cozy brunch or holiday gathering.
Ingredients
2 cans refrigerated cinnamon rolls (reserve icing)
4 large apples (Granny Smith or Golden Delicious), peeled and diced
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/3 cup high-quality caramel sauce
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375 F and coat a 9×13 baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
In a large bowl, combine diced apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cornstarch. Toss until apples are well coated.
Cut each cinnamon roll into 1/4-inch horizontal slices to increase surface area.
Begin layering by placing a portion of the sliced dough in the bottom of the prepared dish.
Add a layer of the spiced apple mixture over the dough.
Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, ending with a layer of dough.
Drizzle the top with caramel sauce.
Bake for 45 minutes until golden brown and bubbling.
Remove from oven and drizzle with the reserved cinnamon roll icing before serving.
Notes
Ensure the apples are diced uniformly for even cooking. If the cinnamon rolls brown too quickly, tent the dish with aluminum foil for the final 15 minutes of baking.
