Description
These crispy, cheesy taco cups are a fun and easy twist on traditional tacos. Baked in a muffin tin using wonton wrappers, they’re filled with seasoned ground beef, melted cheddar cheese, and topped with your favorite taco toppings. Perfect for parties, family dinners, or game day snacks.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 teaspoons olive oil: used for sautéing the ground beef
- 1 pound ground beef (90% lean): the main protein in the filling
- 2 tablespoons taco seasoning: adds bold, classic taco flavor
- Salt to taste: enhances overall flavor
- 1 (14-ounce) can petite diced tomatoes, drained: adds moisture and tang to the meat
- 24 wonton wrappers: form the crispy, layered cup shells
- 1 1/4 cups shredded cheddar cheese: provides gooey, melted texture and rich flavor
- 1/2 cup sour cream: for a creamy, cool topping
- 1/4 cup sliced green onions: adds sharpness and freshness
- 1/4 cup diced fresh tomatoes: brings juicy texture and freshness to the topping
- Cooking spray: prevents sticking and helps crisp the wonton wrappers
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly coat a 12-cup muffin tin with cooking spray.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and break it up with a spatula.
- Cook the beef for 4–5 minutes until browned. Add taco seasoning and salt to taste.
- Stir in the drained diced tomatoes and cook for another 1–2 minutes until warmed through. Remove from heat.
- Press one wonton wrapper into the bottom of each muffin cup to form a base.
- Spoon approximately 1 tablespoon of the meat mixture into each cup and top with about 2 teaspoons of shredded cheese.
- Place a second wonton wrapper on top, then add more meat and the remaining cheese evenly across all cups.
- Bake for 10–15 minutes until the edges of the wontons are golden and crispy, and the cheese is melted.
- Remove from oven and let cool slightly. Top each taco cup with sour cream, diced tomatoes, and sliced green onions before serving.
Notes
- Substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
- Prepare the meat mixture in advance to save time during assembly.
- Wonton wrappers can be replaced with small flour tortillas cut to size.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Reheat in an oven or air fryer for best crispiness.
