Description
This creamy Rice Pudding is a classic comfort dessert made with short-grain rice, milk, sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon. It’s smooth, rich, and perfect served warm or chilled. A simple yet indulgent treat that brings nostalgic sweetness to every spoonful.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4½ cups whole milk (1,080mL)
- ¼ cup granulated sugar (50g)
- Pinch of salt
- ¾ cup uncooked short-grain white rice (135g)
- ⅓ cup raisins (optional, 55g)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Ground cinnamon (to taste)
Instructions
- In a large saucepan, stir together milk, sugar, and salt. Bring to a gentle boil over medium-high heat.
- Stir in the uncooked rice, reduce heat to low, and partially cover the pot to allow steam to escape.
- Simmer the mixture, stirring frequently, until the rice is tender and the pudding becomes thick and creamy (about 25–30 minutes).
- Stir in raisins (if using), vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon. Continue cooking until desired consistency is reached.
- Remove from heat. Serve warm with a sprinkle of cinnamon or refrigerate to serve chilled later.
Notes
- Use short-grain rice for the creamiest texture.
- Stir frequently to prevent sticking and burning.
- To make it richer, substitute ½ cup of milk with heavy cream.
- Add orange zest, cardamom, or nutmeg for extra flavor.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 5 days in the refrigerator.
