Description

Soft, buttery Cinnamon Roll Cookies swirled with cinnamon sugar and topped with a sweet glaze. These cookies combine the flavors of classic cinnamon rolls with the simplicity of sugar cookies, perfect for holidays, gifts, or cozy treats.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour – provides structure and softness
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder – gives light lift to the dough
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt – balances sweetness
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened – adds rich flavor
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar – sweetens and tenderizes
  • 1 large egg – binds ingredients and adds moisture
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract – enhances aroma
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted – for the filling
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar – melts into the cinnamon swirl
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon – the key spice for warmth
  • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar – base for glaze
  • 2 tablespoons milk or cream – thins the glaze

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, cream butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add egg and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to form a soft dough.
  5. Roll dough into a rectangle on a floured surface.
  6. Brush with melted butter, then sprinkle evenly with brown sugar and cinnamon.
  7. Tightly roll the dough into a log, wrap in plastic, and chill for at least 2 hours.
  8. Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  9. Slice chilled dough into 1/4-inch rounds and place on baking sheets.
  10. Bake for 10–12 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
  11. Cool completely, then whisk confectioners’ sugar and milk to make the glaze.
  12. Drizzle glaze over cooled cookies and let set before serving.

Notes

  • Chilling the dough prevents spreading and helps keep the swirl intact.
  • For a cream cheese glaze, substitute milk with softened cream cheese and a splash of vanilla.
  • Dough can be frozen for up to 3 months for easy make-ahead baking.
  • For extra spice, add a pinch of nutmeg or cardamom to the filling.
