Description

This Orange Glazed Chicken recipe features tender chicken pieces coated in a sweet and tangy glaze made from fresh orange juice, soy sauce, and brown sugar. It’s a quick, healthy, and flavorful meal perfect for weeknight dinners or entertaining guests.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound (454 g) chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • Fresh ground black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) grape seed oil or other high flash point oil (canola, peanut, etc.)
  • 1 1/2 cups (360 ml) fresh orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons (45 g) brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) finely grated orange zest
  • Chopped cilantro or parsley, for garnish
  • Rice, couscous, or quinoa, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine orange juice, soy sauce, and brown sugar. Bring to a simmer over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until reduced to about 1/2 cup and thickened to a glaze consistency (about 15–20 minutes).
  2. Stir in the orange zest, then set the glaze aside to slightly cool.
  3. In a large skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat. Add the chicken pieces, seasoning with salt and pepper.
  4. Cook the chicken until golden and cooked through, about 3–5 minutes per side, depending on the size of the pieces.
  5. Pour the prepared orange glaze over the cooked chicken and stir to coat evenly.
  6. Continue to cook for 2–3 minutes, allowing the glaze to thicken slightly and cling to the chicken.
  7. Garnish with chopped cilantro or parsley and serve hot over rice, couscous, or quinoa.

Notes

  • Use fresh orange juice for the brightest flavor — bottled juice works in a pinch but won’t have the same freshness.
  • Simmer the glaze until it coats the back of a spoon for perfect thickness.
  • For a gluten-free version, substitute tamari for soy sauce.
  • To make it spicier, add a pinch of red pepper flakes or chili paste to the glaze.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days and reheat gently on the stovetop.
