Scale
- 4 thinly sliced apples (about 6 cups)
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
- 2/3 cup light brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/3 cup softened butter
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease an 8–10 inch baking dish with butter.
- Place the sliced apples in the dish and sprinkle with 1/4 cup brown sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon. Toss to coat evenly.
- In a bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Add softened butter and blend with your fingers or a fork until crumbly.
- Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples.
- Bake for 30–32 minutes, until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
- Cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
Notes
- Use a mix of Honeycrisp and Granny Smith apples for balanced sweetness and tartness.
- For a gluten-free version, replace all-purpose flour with oat flour.
- If the butter is too firm, microwave it with the dry ingredients for 10–15 seconds to soften.
- Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to one week.
- Reheat individual servings in the microwave for 20–30 seconds before serving.
