Indulge in the exquisite blend of traditional baking and the unique flavor of Japanese matcha with these Matcha Cookies. Perfectly balanced between sweet and earthy, these cookies offer a delightful crunch on the outside with a soft, chewy center. Ideal for tea time, as a snack, or a special treat for matcha lovers.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons high-quality matcha powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, matcha powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in eggs, one at a time, followed by vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients until just combined. Fold in white chocolate chips if using.
  6. Scoop tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are slightly golden.
  8. Allow to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For a stronger matcha flavor, increase the matcha powder to 3 tablespoons.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.
  • Dough can be frozen for up to 3 months. Bake straight from frozen, adding a couple of extra minutes to the baking time.
