Lemon Herb Popcorn is a bright, zesty, and savory snack made with freshly popped kernels, olive oil, lemon zest, garlic, and a blend of dried herbs. Ready in just minutes, this easy homemade popcorn recipe delivers bold citrus flavor and aromatic seasoning, making it perfect for movie nights, parties, or a healthy everyday snack.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
- 2 tablespoons olive oil (plus extra drizzle if needed)
- 1 tablespoon freshly grated lemon zest
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 3/4 teaspoon fine sea salt (or to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
- Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in a large heavy-bottomed pot over medium heat. Add 2–3 popcorn kernels, cover, and wait until they pop to ensure the oil is hot.
- Add the remaining popcorn kernels in an even layer. Cover with a lid and shake the pot occasionally to prevent burning.
- Cook until the popping slows to about 2 seconds between pops. Remove from heat immediately and transfer the popcorn to a large mixing bowl.
- In a small bowl, combine lemon zest, garlic powder, dried parsley, thyme, oregano, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
- Lightly drizzle the warm popcorn with a small additional amount of olive oil if needed, tossing gently to help the seasoning adhere.
- Sprinkle the lemon herb seasoning over the popcorn in batches, tossing continuously to coat evenly.
- Taste and adjust salt or lemon zest as desired. Serve immediately while warm and crisp.
Notes
- Use lemon zest instead of lemon juice to prevent soggy popcorn.
- Air-popped popcorn can be used for a lighter version; simply toss with olive oil before seasoning.
- For a cheesy variation, add 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan or nutritional yeast.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
- If popcorn softens, refresh in a 250°F (120°C) oven for 5 minutes.
