Description

These Heart-Shaped Caprese Sandwiches are the perfect blend of festive and flavorful. Featuring heart-cut mozzarella, fresh basil, ripe tomatoes, and a drizzle of balsamic glaze on toasted French rolls, they’re a fun and charming way to serve a classic caprese twist for Valentine’s Day or any celebration of love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bag French rolls (6 rolls, halved)
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 12 garlic cloves
  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella cheese log, cut into 24 heart-shaped slices
  • 12 fresh basil leaves
  • 5 small tomatoes, sliced
  • Balsamic glaze (Delallo brand preferred)
  • 1/2 cup aioli or mayonnaise (truffle aioli recommended)
  • 12 raspberry heart cookies (optional, for serving)
  • 24 dark chocolate mini heart cookies (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Slice the mozzarella cheese and use a small heart-shaped cookie cutter to make 24 heart pieces.
  2. Preheat the oven broiler. Cut the French rolls in half and place them cut side up on a baking sheet.
  3. Rub each bread half with a garlic clove and drizzle with olive oil.
  4. Broil for 1–2 minutes until golden and crisp. Remove from the oven.
  5. Spread about 1 teaspoon of aioli or mayonnaise on each toasted bread slice.
  6. Add a fresh basil leaf and a tomato slice on each piece of bread.
  7. Top with two mozzarella hearts per sandwich.
  8. Right before serving, drizzle with balsamic glaze.
  9. Optionally, arrange raspberry and chocolate heart cookies around the sandwiches on the serving board.

Notes

  • Use metal cookie cutters for cleaner mozzarella hearts.
  • These sandwiches are best served immediately after assembling.
  • Cheese hearts can be prepared a day in advance and refrigerated.
  • Customize with prosciutto, arugula, or flavored aioli for variations.
