Eggnog Blossoms: A Festive Cookie with a Holiday Twist

  • Author: Alice Barry
  • Total Time: 1 hour 30 minutes (including cooling)
  • Yield: 24 cookies 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

Eggnog Blossoms are festive holiday cookies inspired by the classic peanut butter blossom but infused with the warm, creamy flavors of eggnog. With nutmeg, rum extract, and a Hershey’s Hug on top, these cookies are soft, buttery, and perfect for Christmas celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 stick (8 tablespoons) unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon heavy cream
  • 1 to 1 1/2 teaspoons rum extract
  • 1 small pinch ground cloves
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 4 teaspoons freshly grated nutmeg (divided)
  • 24 striped milk chocolate–white chocolate drops (Hershey’s Hugs), unwrapped

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl until combined.
  3. In a large bowl, beat butter and 1/2 cup sugar with an electric mixer on medium speed until creamy, about 1 minute.
  4. Add heavy cream, rum extract, ground cloves, egg yolk, and 2 teaspoons nutmeg. Beat until smooth.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture and mix on low speed until dough just combines.
  6. Roll the dough into twenty-four 1-inch balls.
  7. Mix remaining 1/4 cup sugar and 2 teaspoons nutmeg in a small bowl. Roll dough balls in the spiced sugar to coat.
  8. Arrange balls 2 inches apart on prepared baking sheets.
  9. Bake for 14 minutes, rotating sheets halfway through, until cookies are golden brown at the edges.
  10. Remove from oven and immediately press a Hershey’s Hug into the center of each warm cookie.
  11. Cool completely on wire racks until chocolate is set, about 1 hour.

Notes

  • Use freshly grated nutmeg for the best flavor.
  • Substitute eggnog for cream for a stronger eggnog taste.
  • Do not overmix the dough to keep cookies soft.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days or freeze for up to a month.
