Description
This easy Beef Burrito Skillet is a one-pan Tex-Mex dinner loaded with seasoned beef, black beans, salsa, and melted cheese. Perfect for busy weeknights, this flavorful meal combines all the elements of a classic burrito in a single skillet — no wrapping required!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (15 oz) can black beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 cup salsa (mild or hot, as preferred)
- 4 small flour tortillas, cut into strips
- 1 packet taco seasoning
- 1 cup shredded cheddar or Mexican blend cheese
- Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)
- Optional toppings: sour cream, diced tomatoes, avocado, jalapeños
Instructions
- In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
- Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the beef. Cook until softened and fragrant, about 3 minutes.
- Sprinkle in the taco seasoning and stir well to coat the beef mixture evenly.
- Stir in the black beans and salsa. Mix thoroughly and simmer for 3–5 minutes until heated through.
- Add the tortilla strips and fold them into the mixture. Cook for another 3–4 minutes until the tortillas soften and absorb the sauce.
- Sprinkle shredded cheese over the top. Cover the skillet and let it sit for 2–3 minutes until the cheese melts.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with optional toppings like sour cream or avocado slices.
Notes
- Use lean ground beef for less grease and a cleaner flavor.
- Flour tortillas soften like dumplings, while corn tortillas provide a firmer, gluten-free texture.
- For extra spice, add diced jalapeños or use hot salsa.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
- Reheat on the stove with a splash of water or broth to maintain texture.
