Beef Burrito Skillet: The Ultimate One-Pan Comfort Dinner

  • Author: Alice Barry
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x
  • Diet: Halal

Description

This easy Beef Burrito Skillet is a one-pan Tex-Mex dinner loaded with seasoned beef, black beans, salsa, and melted cheese. Perfect for busy weeknights, this flavorful meal combines all the elements of a classic burrito in a single skillet — no wrapping required!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (15 oz) can black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 cup salsa (mild or hot, as preferred)
  • 4 small flour tortillas, cut into strips
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar or Mexican blend cheese
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)
  • Optional toppings: sour cream, diced tomatoes, avocado, jalapeños

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the beef. Cook until softened and fragrant, about 3 minutes.
  3. Sprinkle in the taco seasoning and stir well to coat the beef mixture evenly.
  4. Stir in the black beans and salsa. Mix thoroughly and simmer for 3–5 minutes until heated through.
  5. Add the tortilla strips and fold them into the mixture. Cook for another 3–4 minutes until the tortillas soften and absorb the sauce.
  6. Sprinkle shredded cheese over the top. Cover the skillet and let it sit for 2–3 minutes until the cheese melts.
  7. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with optional toppings like sour cream or avocado slices.

Notes

  • Use lean ground beef for less grease and a cleaner flavor.
  • Flour tortillas soften like dumplings, while corn tortillas provide a firmer, gluten-free texture.
  • For extra spice, add diced jalapeños or use hot salsa.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
  • Reheat on the stove with a splash of water or broth to maintain texture.
