Description

This Beef and Broccoli Stir Fry is a quick, flavorful meal featuring tender slices of beef, crisp broccoli florets, and a savory homemade sauce. Ready in under 30 minutes, it’s perfect for busy weeknights and tastes just like your favorite takeout — but healthier and fresher.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/4 lbs flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon vegetable oil, divided use
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 teaspoons minced fresh ginger
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1/4 cup oyster sauce
  • 1/4 cup beef broth or water
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons toasted sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 teaspoon of oil in a large frying pan over medium heat. Add broccoli and cook for about 4 minutes or until tender.
  2. Add ginger and garlic to the pan and cook for 30 seconds more, stirring constantly. Remove the broccoli from the pan and set aside.
  3. Wipe the pan clean and turn the heat to high. Add the remaining tablespoon of oil.
  4. Season the steak slices with salt and pepper, then add them to the pan in a single layer. Cook 3–4 minutes per side until browned and cooked through. You may need to do this in batches.
  5. Return the broccoli mixture to the pan and cook for 2 more minutes until heated through.
  6. In a bowl, whisk together the oyster sauce, beef broth, sugar, sesame oil, and soy sauce. In a separate small bowl, mix cornstarch with a tablespoon of cold water.
  7. Pour the sauce mixture into the pan, then add the cornstarch mixture. Stir and bring to a boil; cook for about 1 minute until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and broccoli.
  8. Serve immediately over rice, noodles, or quinoa, if desired.

Notes

  • Freeze the beef for 30 minutes before slicing to make it easier to cut thinly.
  • Use high heat to sear the beef properly for the best flavor and texture.
  • Oyster sauce can be substituted with hoisin sauce for a slightly sweeter flavor.
  • For a gluten-free option, use tamari instead of soy sauce.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
