Description
This Beef and Broccoli Stir Fry is a quick, flavorful meal featuring tender slices of beef, crisp broccoli florets, and a savory homemade sauce. Ready in under 30 minutes, it’s perfect for busy weeknights and tastes just like your favorite takeout — but healthier and fresher.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 1/4 lbs flank steak, thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon vegetable oil, divided use
- 2 cups broccoli florets
- 2 teaspoons minced fresh ginger
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 1/4 cup oyster sauce
- 1/4 cup beef broth or water
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 2 teaspoons toasted sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Heat 1 teaspoon of oil in a large frying pan over medium heat. Add broccoli and cook for about 4 minutes or until tender.
- Add ginger and garlic to the pan and cook for 30 seconds more, stirring constantly. Remove the broccoli from the pan and set aside.
- Wipe the pan clean and turn the heat to high. Add the remaining tablespoon of oil.
- Season the steak slices with salt and pepper, then add them to the pan in a single layer. Cook 3–4 minutes per side until browned and cooked through. You may need to do this in batches.
- Return the broccoli mixture to the pan and cook for 2 more minutes until heated through.
- In a bowl, whisk together the oyster sauce, beef broth, sugar, sesame oil, and soy sauce. In a separate small bowl, mix cornstarch with a tablespoon of cold water.
- Pour the sauce mixture into the pan, then add the cornstarch mixture. Stir and bring to a boil; cook for about 1 minute until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and broccoli.
- Serve immediately over rice, noodles, or quinoa, if desired.
Notes
- Freeze the beef for 30 minutes before slicing to make it easier to cut thinly.
- Use high heat to sear the beef properly for the best flavor and texture.
- Oyster sauce can be substituted with hoisin sauce for a slightly sweeter flavor.
- For a gluten-free option, use tamari instead of soy sauce.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
